Pursue after Jesus in relationship that leads us to holiness

We never want to make disciples and miss Jesus

First we must understand that a Tier 1 success in disciple-making is that those we are discipling are passionately pursuing after Jesus in His Word, Prayer, and a Community of believers apart from us having to lead them to doing it. Sometimes we get so focused on the big picture vision that we forget it is the people, the disciples making disciples, that will make the big picture happen. The only way to sustain that vision though is not to miss Jesus! We must also know that is successful and fruitful when we see our disciples faithfully pursuing Jesus in relationship that leads to holiness, even if they are not multiplying.

Second we must understand how we define holiness. To understand that, we must go back to Exodus 19:5-6 and see the intention of why God told His people to be holy. This is what it says: “Now therefore, if you will indeed obey my voice and keep my covenant, you shall be my treasured possession among all peoples, for all the earth is mine; and you shall be to me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.’ These are the words that you shall speak to the people of Israel.” This is what God is saying, He was calling His people to be more holier than the nations around them to show them that they were set apart, but they were also to be a kingdom of priest that represented God to all other nations and also to actively pursue in taking God to all other nations. This is our same calling in 1 Peter 2:9, “But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.” Holiness is to be set apart in 2 ways: [Referencing 2 Corinthians 5:17-21]

  1. To live life in a moral way that reflects the glory of God according to His Word, so they can represent God through their life
  2. To make God known in word and deed by being His ambassadors who have been given a ministry and message of reconciliation to share the gospel and make disciples that make disciples.

If we are to follow what Holiness is here, then we must understand that we can not only live set apart, but we must also be His ambassadors. And vice versa, we can not only be His ambassadors, but we must also live set apart. This is our identity in Christ and it can not be separated. This is what we are striving for in every disciple, because this is the foundation to, ‘developing multiplying disciples to impact lostness.’
